Last month saw the 40th Anniversary pass of one of the most
influential rock albums ever recorded. Deep Purple's 'Machine Head'
was the bands 6th studio album and their most successful, topping
the charts in the UK, Germany, Australia and Canada. It was also
certified platinum and reached number 7 on the US Billboard
Machine Head has frequently
been cited as a main influence in the development of Heavy Metal.
Alongside Led Zeppelin's IV and Black Sabbath's Paranoid, it has
stood the test of time as one of the quintessential English hard
rock albums since it's birth 40 years ago.
This documentary, featuring Jon Lord, Ian Gillan, Ritchie
Blackmore, Ian Paice and Roger Glover gives an account of the
events surrounding the recording of 'Machine Head' in December 1971
and the Casino fire on the 4th December which resulted in the band
writing and recording 'Smoke On The Water'. Described as the
"mother of all riffs" it became one of the most famous and
instantly recognisable songs in history and it's simplicity made it
