Two exciting new models from PRS will be arriving in the UK
shortly - a new version of the much-loved DGT Dave Grissom model
and a left-handed incarnation of the legendary Custom 24.
The DGT has always been a hugely popular fixture in the PRS
line-up, and Mr Grissom's new DGT Standard takes the features of
the original and blends with the sonic character of an all mahogany
guitar. So that means a carved mahogany body, 25″ scale length/22
fret mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, jumbo frets, moon
inlays (with birds as an option), locking faux bone tuners and PRS
trem. Pickups are a pair of DGT humbuckers, each with a volume
control, push/pull tone control and 3-way selector.
There's a great choice of opaque and translucent colours where
the SGT Standard is concerned too - Faded Cherry, McCarty Tobacco
Sunburst, Natural, Antique White, Black, Seafoam Green, Frost Blue
Metallic, Green Burst and Powder Blue.
Tonally, the DGT Standard has a more focussed mid-range with
what Grissom describes as "a nice chime and growl as well". It's s
storming guitar, and one that will only be available for a limited
period, so talk to your local PRS US dealer ASAP!
Alongside the new DGT, PRS have also released a limited run of
"Lefty" Custom 24 guitars. A perennial favourite, the CU24 is of
course the guitar that Paul Smith took to his first trade show in
The left-handed version sticks to the popular format of maple
top, mahogany back, mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard with "old
school" abalone birds inlays. The excellent 59/09 humbuckers make
an appearance here, with new contoured bobbins that arc with the
strings for a more open tone - these are controlled with a 5-way
blade switch that now allows both humbuckers to be selected at the
same time. There's a load of gorgeous finish options, from Amber
Black to Eriza Verde, McCarty Sunburst to Purple Hazel - and 10 Top
flame and quilt tops, nickel, gold or hybrid hardware are also
All in all, an irresistible package for left-handers!
