Rush & Deep Purple Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Rush & Deep Purple Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -

A much deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame could finally be on the cards for Rush and Deep Purple, reports Classic Rock Magazine.

The legendary British outfit have been eligible for nomination for the past 20 years and the Canadian prog-rock trio eligible for 15. However, both have been constantly overlooked despite calls from fans and media alike.

Deep Purple and Rush will find themselves in contention with Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Procol Harum, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Albert King, Kraftwerk, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, Public Enemy, NWA, Chic and the Marvelettes and the Meters.

In an official statement Rush said:

"We are honoured to be among the nominees for this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We are especially thrilled for the many, many dedicated fans to whom this nomination is so very important."

Hall of Fame chief exec Joel Peresman says:

"The definition of 'rock and roll' means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music."

Bands become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the initial release of their debut album. In recent years a public campaign to have Rush inducted attracted over 40,000 signatures.
