Heavy Metal Lecturer Liam Maloy On BBC News

Heavy Metal Lecturer Liam Maloy On BBC News -

The music lecturer responsible for the much criticised Heavy Metal degree has appeared on the BBC Breakfast show to defend the qualification.

Music Lecturer Liam Maloy, who works at New College Nottingham where the course is available, has responded to accusations that the degree is a "waste of time" and an "easy option" for students by stating that it would be "academically rigorous."

He went on to add,

"In the past, heavy metal has not been taken seriously and is seen as lacking academic credibility when compared with other genres such as jazz and classical music. But that's just a cultural construction."

The Heavy Metal course has so far signed up more than 20 students at a cost of £5,750 each per year.
