On the 15th and 16th of July, virtuoso jazz fusion
and blues guitarist Scott Henderson brings his band Tribal Tech to
Ronnie Scott's for the first time. With his trademark beautiful
tone and striking ability to blend blues, rock, funk and jazz, he
formed his own groundbreaking trio and performed as sideman to jazz
greats such as Joe Zawinul. Yet it is with his impressive
work as co-leader of Tribal Tech, one of the most highly-regarded
fusion bands of the 1990s, that he is best known.
Originally formed in 1984 with bass player Gary
Willis, the band produced nine albums positioning Henderson and
Willis among the most acclaimed instrumentalists in contemporary
jazz, with each frequently topping music magazine best-of lists. In
1991 Henderson was namedNo 1 Jazz Guitarist'by Guitar World
magazine, and was voted best jazz guitarist in Guitar Player
magazine's Annual Reader's Poll the following year.
In 1995 Tribal Tech went on hiatus while band members
pursued solo projects, finally reuniting four years later then
dissolving following 2000's Rocket Science.
For their date at Ronnie Scott's Scott Henderson,
Gary Willis, Scott Kinsey and Kirk Covington present their new
album 'X'. Once again throwing convention out the window, the
band entered the studio with each member bringing musical sketches
to the table in favour of a set list of heavy arrangements. They
turned on the tape machines and bravely set out to play together as
a unit, producing perhaps the most phenomenal recording of their
impressive 25+ year history as a band.
