Jimi Hendirx Biopic to Focus on his Pre-Fame Years - The production team behind 'All Is By My Side,' the much anticipated Jimi Hendrix biopic staring Outkast's Andre '3000' Benjamin, have revealed that the feature will not include any songs written by the late guitar legend, the rights to which are owned and controlled by the late guitar legends' estate, reports the Rolling Stone.
However the film, which is currently being shot in Ireland, will feature brand new recordings of Beatles (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) and Muddy Walters ('Mannish Boy') classics recorded by Benjamin especially for the film. Hendrix famously covered both tracks during his time in London in 1966 - 1967, which the film is based on. It may be a little disappointing for fans to learn that the film will not include any music from Hendirx but if the movie were to include the likes of "Purple Haze" or "The Wind Cries Mary," then producers would have needed permission from Experience Hendrix, which owns the copyrights to the material. "This is the story of Jimi being discovered as a backup musician and how he went to London and became Jimi Hendrix," producer Sean McKittrick tells Rolling Stone. Chickenfoot drummer Kenny Aronoff talked about being cast as a drummer during scenes where Hendrix jams with bands such as Cream.
"I had to be Ginger Baker," Aronoff said. "Because remember, Jimi is sitting in with Cream and these guys are trying to keep up with him, because these guys are like 'who the f-k are you?' So you've got to have an attitude like 'hey, little f-ker from the USA, I can keep up with you.' All Is By My Side is slated to debut at next year's (2013) Sundance Film Festival.
